another wheel and tire size question

Hey guys, need some help. I have a 97 e420 with 18x8.5 gianelle chrome with 225x40. Eibachs and koni yellows, lowered. Chrome is flaking so thinking of doing a 19inch wheel in black, but really concerned about rubbing etc. If I do a 19 by 8.5, what offset will I need and what tire size? Thanks much.

Which Eibachs are you running? The standard Pro Kit? If so, what spring pads are you running.

I'm running the H&R race cup kit. It's a 2 inch drop front and 1.8 drop rear. I'm on #1 spring pads. If your car is as low or higher than mine you won't have any issues going as big as 19x8.5 and 19x9.5's rear on a 235-35 front tire and a 265-30 rear tire.
There are plenty of guys here that run a 245 and 275 tire with little or no problems also. Just remember that different tire brands run wider and more narrow depending on what brand. My 235's and 265's run a little on the wide side. I'm also running 19x9's and 10's rear.

I forget who has a w210 E class on here with black wheels but they look sick.

Esleeper,

Who here is running a 275 in the rear? A 275 what?

The reason I'm asking is because I have a set of 275 40 19's that I had considered putting on the rear of my E320 but I'm afraid that they won't fit. Anybody running this?

Thanks.

I assume the 40 is a typo, and that you meant 30. If you actually meant 275/40/19, I suggest you do some reading so that you at least have a basic understanding of how tire sizes work. 275/40/19 is waaaay too tall.

275/30/19 is the right size.

Thanks lexrex. I actually do understand how the tire sizes work but was just curious if they would even come close to working. I bought the wrong size (obviously) off ebay for $5 (90% tread) and have had them in my garage for some time now. I'm sure I can trade/sell them to someone for more than I paid.

drc, sorry for the hijack.

Thanks guys, I have eibach pro-kit with #1 pads, on97 e420. I'm really interested in the offset and tire size--If I run a 19x8.5, what is the offset I need?

Thanks for the tire size experiences also, it helps. Thinking of doing a 225-35x19, so no issues with clearance.
Any specific wheels you have used or recommend besides amg etc.?

thanks much.

Wouldn't 225/35/19 be awful skinny? I currently am running a 245/35/19 and think that (in at least the rear) that it could be a bit wider.

Don't think that all tire manufacturers sizes run the same. The 265's on the rear of my car run a little wide. Almost like a 275.

Like Hubert said, he is running 245-35-19's front and 275-30-19's rear and had to roll his fenders. His car is stitting about as low as mine. That is why I went with the 235-35's front and 265-35's rear as I wanted the car to sit on the tires without any chance of rub.

drc, I would not run a 275-40-19 on the rear of the car even if it was at stock height. On top of that it would look a bit strange.

As for the 225's If you like the "train track" look, ( meaning from the front or rear your tires will look like train wheels (narrow ) then go for it. I would not go any more narrow than 235's on the front.

drc, as for your offset on an 8.5 wide wheel you are going to have a lot of choices. On your fronts you are looking at around a 35mm offset front. If you don't care about how the rear looks then you can go that same width all the way around for rotating purposes. Most guys go staggered with a wider wheel out back with around a 35mm offset also. remember a millimeter is ][ so tiny. You need to find the wheels you want and ask whomever you buy them from about fitment to your ride. You will not have any problems with the springs you have.
