Mobil 1 ESP MB229.51 is for Bluetec engines

and to clear some more confusion

In the oil industry patent only granted for 5 years that's why Castrol has 5W40 SLX for Jetta diesel and Mobil has ESP for Bluetec, both oil companies are under contracts to each car makers. when the 5 years was over for Castrol they switch from 5W40 to 5W30 SLX to gain 5 years more at the same time VW changed the recommendations to accommodate the use of Castrol Oil whatever the case is, I do not know if ExxionMobil will follow Castrol leads and do the same.

I'm sorry to bring this old thread up again, but I still can NOT find Mobil 1 Formula M 5W-40 in stores. I have a 2007 E63 AMG, and AMG has recommended a switch from 0W-40 to 5W-40 in May of 2008

Does anybody know if this oil is available yet?

The difference is minimal between the 5W-40 and the 0W-40, why even switch between them

Use 0w40

M1 the other oil has been relegated to diesel use,again.Phosphor content in the 5wt is very hard on the cats.So just use spec mb mobil1 or the other oils that meet current spec.M1 is easiest to find and often on sale at napa for coupon sales and also sold at most walmarts.

The reviver of this old post owns an 07 mercedes.The oil link you provided does not even qualify for use in his very Expensive engine.
Mobil 1 SuperSyn European Car Formula 0W-40 meets 229.5

another gambler? If you like your CDI you are also under mb spec using that off brand oil,but it's your engine.
