Exclamation 320 E 1997 command language

Hi guys,
This is my first participation in this great forum.
I do appreciate the efforts of the members to help each others and to make the world of MB as one room.
Now I will get into my issue. The command system in the car speaks Japanese (I am really amazed of the options the Japanese MB has over USA MB) so I would be grateful if anybody could provide me with the English software or at least give me an advice of what to do.

You did not say where you are but if you have a local MB dealer, it would be worth asking them about this too.

thank you for responding
actually the car is in United Arab Emirates and I am in Canada.
Regarding the dealer, he is the last option for me. and I am asking this question because normal workshops in United Arab Emirates (not the dealer) succeeded to overwrite the nav system of BMW exported from japan that has the same problem but not for BM since they do not have the MB software and I dont know if the software is available on the internet or this forum.

my car came from the UAE (that explains it being jap spec and all)

anyways just get rid of the system and invest in a proper COMAND or equvalent system

What you can do, is buy the updated navi unit and stick it in there.

So in case if I want to replace it, is the new one compitable with the car system since the command system controls the radio, CD audio changer and cassette, TV, Navi, telephone control, and AC unit.

Thank you for your advice. I attached another photo of the system but it is not so clear. I guess everything is combined togther in this controller and it would be costly and not worth as the unit is working perfectly and my dad used to deal with this language problem (off course did not learn japanese but by trial and error approach). By the way, as your car was imported from japan as well, did you manage to get the engilsh owner manual of this japanese spec car.

Japanese headunit

Hi Shadi,

I'm in UAE, and I've been in the same thing, my car 2002 E320 imported from and came with Japanese Command, the Japanese specs are different from Euro and USA as well, the radio frequency range is different FM ends where our range starts that was a pain for me and also the navigation does not work, no one is able to do anything for the Japanese command including dealer, but the language can be changed from Japanese to English easily, I don't remember the steps but I'm it can be.
However I exausted all the possibilities to modify it but failed, so I took a shortcut and replaced it wit Euro command 2.0 it's working perfectly Navigation, Radio and CD, but TV does not work because the Japanese TV tuner is not compatible with Euro command, but I don't need a TV, even when it was working it wasn't very good.
So don't waste your time and money, it's worthless.

Thanks

Do you really need a Nav system in Dubai? I lived there a few years and still know it like the back of my hand.

you are correct, no need to nav system, but the comand system in the car controls the radio, CD audio changer and cassette, TV, Navi, and others. I alwayes wanted to use the full features of mercedes.
