How to sell a 98 E320 with a bad tranny?

Car has 120k miles, everything works but the tranny kicks on every gear change and is currently stuck in 2nd gear.

How or were do we sell it?

You are going to have to find you a mechanic that wants to fix up but good luck on that. Where do you live?
I made the decision that if I get another year out of mine I will just enjoy crushing it so nobody else would ever be troubled by its problems!

Tranny might not be that bad. Spend a couple of hundred to have the fluid and filter changed, or at least have the problem diagnosed. If you are definitely going to sell it, I'd probably use eBay too. Also, we have a magazine called Auto Trader that I see around for sale at news stands.

You can trade-in, craiglist, eBay, parking on the street with sign, or autoTrader. Best is to find a mechanic who will buy & fix it. Regardless how you sell it, you should disclosure about the trans problem.

Same thing happen to my 98, trans broke. I was looking for a trade-in, but dealer make sound so nasty that I felt like I have to give them money to take my car (!!!), so I decided to fix it & drive the crap out of it. $1.6K later, car run like charm.

E Bay is the place to sell distressed stuff and yours certainly is distressed. I would hope only to get salvage value from it unless you repair the transmission.

The tranny is not bad at all, it an electrical problem with the shift assembly under the center console where the shift lever is. My moms (which I have now) had the same problem...it was around 900 to fix.

Your transmission is stuck in "limp home" mode. Have it diagnosed and the repair may be small and simple.
