Interesting air filter test...
I found this link on another site and thought it might be worth posting. The results are surprising.

From what I gather, that report concludes that K&N is the worst at actually filtering particles, but on the other hand is the least restrictive. It doesn't compare a MB OEM filter to K&N, which would be the only useful test in our case.
Nonetheless, it does not address people over-oiling.

Admit it,at least one filter in this test is an equal to an mb filter, and note it only flows better at high cfm.In the normal range which is where most of our real world driving is done a stock filter flows as well plus if you want the size quantity and restriction limits of particulates then by all means us a k/n.I will use oe or equal to oe.
The amount and size of dirt that gets through a k/n is scary,I/d love to see the inside of a 100k plus motor run with one, yikes!

p.s. over oiling
These filters were tested as provided by the manufacturer,So the assumption is they{k/n} at least know how much oil is to get applied, right?

Well I am surprised at the amount of junk that gets through, so I may change my mind and go back to OEM. So you win ohlord. ![Smilie](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
What I'd like to see is an unbiased test of K&N-Green-OEM not only in terms of restriction and filtering, but also power levels. That would end all debate right there. We need someone to pony up $3k to that company to run the test.
However, the original point was many K&N users over oil the filter, blow out their MAF, and then blame it on the filter. I bet you a frappaccino latte grande lite that this is common.

You are so right, never considered that point. Most likely they failed to observe the cardinal rule of never touching the maf with anything other then the cfs maf cleaner and damaged the fine wires that get heated to judge the air flow going past them.I steered away from the k/n when I had a negitive performance reaction after installing one in my BMW.

I've never seen such an intense effort to prove such a flimsy evidence.... PPL who need more HP just through the Air filter should get rid of the filter all together... or punch a hole in it... and ppl who need real performance go with OEM without worrying that any filterless car can be any better on the street than a filtered car... (trust me i've tested driving MB without a filter) it only adds black smoke and a smoother running engine feel... but u r sure u'll burn ur engine in 1 year... MORAL of the story: U want more HP u need to pay for it... there is no shortcut to that...

![Question](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/icons/icon5.gif)
I actually have two cars that I have run K&N air filters in for years. My just recently sold 300M had 142K on it when it was sold. I have ran K&N in it since it had 3K miles on it. Excellent performance, clean engine, clean oil, and I got the 18-21mpg from the car.
My E320, which my wife drives mostly has 168K miles on it, and has been running K&N filters since about 45-50K. Excellent performance, gas mileage, clean engine, and oil. If these claims were true, there would be many class actions lawsuits against K&N I think. On the over-oiling, yes that is correct. I have oiled many filters, and you have to do it right. Not K&N's fault if you you do so.
Most of all performance shops use them, Kleeman uses them in part of the kit for the CLS. My buddy here in Atl has a CLS55 that was Kleeman outfitted, and they said thats all they use. Something seems kind of suspect on thes e claims of K&N is awful.
I will do a test myself after I put the K&N filters in my CLS which is being delivered to my house in the morning. I will post back results.
