Windshield glass replacement, how much it can be?

I have a crack, it isn't in direct visible area, however the glass should be eventually replaced. I have rain sensor. How much it could be to replace? My deductible is $1500, so I am not sure it's worth using insurance.

Have you called the dealer? I've had to replace a window in my 98 and it turned out being much cheaper by going through the dealer than every auto replacement glass company that I called.

I paid $180 for the glass, and $40 for labor. Mine does not have rain sensor.

Wow. The dealer just quoted me $624 to replace the windshield! I scheduled an appointment with a company that will replace the glass at your home. Total is $290 plus tax.

I doubt they will include OEM glass with the white sticker. This may impact the resale value.

Wait, what am I talking about. We don't have any on these cars.

Thanks everyone for info. Is rain sensor part of the glass? If so, then I doubt that not OEM glass can be with the sensor. Anyway numbers do not look so high, so I'm hoping to negotiate with a dealer something below $500.

I have found the "white stickers" for sale on ebay. Generally about $6.00 shipped. I have a stone chip in my windshield too and was concerned about losing my sticker so I searched them on ebay.

That ebay, what did we do before ebay?? I have bought so many parts off of ebay for my W210 its not even funny............

I have purchased the white windshield "signature" sticker from my dealer-it was only 4 dollars+tax and has the correct chassis number on it, ie 210 442 002...

This thread got me thinking about my the pitted-up windshield on my otherwise pristine 97 E420. Lowest quote was $278 installed with mobile service -I do not have a rain sensor.

FYI to all pf you. Most insurance companies offer full glass coverage as a separate option for as litle as $25.00 /yr. Well worth it.

$285 installed w/rain sensor at Speedy Glass in Concord, CA. Car is a 2002 E320. They did a great job. No white sticker and I currently don't feel like putting one on. Maybe I'll feel different later.

In Fl, the law states a windscreen replacement when needed, shall be replaced free of charge by your auto insurance.

We did away with smog testing about 8 years ago, in FL. And even after your car did not pass after so many attemps you could pay if I remember a fee around six hundred and you were good to go! It could have been if you spent more than 600 you could get a pass because of the cap limit on repairs, maybe someone else from fl. could correct me if I am not accurate.
Anyway the smog testing is mute here now

I have Mercury Insurance in Los Angeles. I've replaced my windshield twice on my 2001 E320. Each time they came to the office, took 30 minutes. My policy with Mercury says I pay $250.

I have State Farm here in NY and have full glass coverage. Is this a NY thing or am I reading posts from under-insured cars? Seems odd to me that people are replacing their glass out-of pocket....

Yes, I guess my car is under-insured. Actually CA is a bit different, safety doesn't get priority, we can talk on our phones when drive cars.

I had my E420 windshield replaced a few months ago for $165. An indy wanted $250 - $350. I called around and got the lowest price i could find. He had the white stickers with him. He came to my house and did it in the driveway in about an hour. Rain sensing windshield seems like an unneccesary feature if you still have good eyesight. ymmv

After-market glass can be okay, but make sure it looks like the original, or at least they tell you the difference.

I recently saw a windshield replacement on a Honda CRV; the sun-blocking 'dots' that hides the dash seam and a-pillar seems was a lot different than OEM (not as many dots, and spread out futher), so it didn't look as good, and the blue-tint across the top was only half as dark... overall cost was cheaper, but the lady said she would have rathered paid more and gotten OEM, IF she had known what the end result was going to be...
