6000k or 8000k?

Hey guys im going to order an HID kit for my car and im wondering if i should get the 6000k, 8000k, or even the 10000k kit? i know that the 6000k looks whiteish and the 8000k is blue which i like, but what are the differences in all three of these?

6000k is a little but more blue than the original xenons, anything higher than 8000k will burn through your headlamps because they are too hot. 6000k is the way to go lookwise and performance wise.

ºKelvin is not same as ºF/C, thus, there is no burn through your headlight effect.

ºK is color temperature, whereas ºF/ºC is heat tempertaure

Agreed, I'm quoting what the Mercedes dealer said to me befoire I purchased these HID's. He said the 210's headlamp lens cannot sustain the 10 and 1200k HID's. The 211's are able to sustain them. Regardless my opinion is the 6000s.

6000K is more visible then 8000k in distance. Yet, I like a SLIGHT blue tint.

Without getting into any science because thi sis about lights, even though Kelvin is a color temperature the C degree is the same as a K just on a different scale. The more the heat, the more the color change. Thats why the 12000k is so hot it discharges blue/purple. The heat discharges the color.

i agree. it's getting into an apples/oranges issue because it's possible to
have high ºK yet cold heat temperature. so appropriately, Kelvin scale
probably isn't the best measure anyway.

I wouldn't go anything higher then 8,000k.....it does discharge heat. You don't want to take the chances and burn out your entire car, like what jTC230 did.

go for 6000K, at least not higher than 8000K. 6000K is ~100% white. the effective color temperature of the sun is about 5800K and daylight lies around that color temperature. why original xenon lamps (~5000K) looks blue, I don't know. 8000K IS blue and may look cooler than 6000K but it doesn't give as much light as lover color temperatures.. 10, 12 and 15 000K is a waste, and to be honest, it's for 14yearolds..

If you want the best info on lights ranges and merits of different systems go to stern lighting,he has all the studies on what is the best brightest etc. After all your aim is to see at night, not put on a fashion show!

xenon is designed for two-folds - quality light output that last longer than traditional halogen and for safety measures in greater visability at night - I wouldn't go any higher than 6000k and still have a hint of blue-purplish hue. let me know how it turns out!!

my best to you!

There's almost no chance those bulbs are technically legal. Legal or not, the higher the color temperture, the lower the amount of visible light that is produced. That fact cannot be changed. The best, brightest HID bulbs I've used were the 5800K Philips Ultinons. Just a lttle blue, but definitely brighter than the 8K and up crap floating around out there.

This is 12,000k on my Honda Del Sol, i have the same kit on my E-Class. Doesnt look purple to me , anyway the only point you do make is that they are illegal, but they light up the road great! and i have never been pulled over because of them. If by any case you do, its only a fix ticket for $10.00 bucks. Take care.

i think it's worth pointing out that though it may appear brighter and light up
certain things on the road better....that's not to say that the lumens are
correspondingly higher. let's say you're be in a dark room with 20 watt bulb
and it appears sooo dim. you then swap out with 20 watt black light and you
instantly see certain colors pop out more....appearing to be brighter. that is
anecdotal but nonetheless, doesn't equate to the light being brighter....across
the spectrum and for our receptors. simply a play on vision....when in fact,
the bulb may be emitting less light.

fact is, when you introduce color biased lighting, the ability to see certain
objects (colors) better is simply a byproduct of reflection....and the colors of
the objects reflecting them, i opine (i slept through physics).

Between the 6000 and 8000, I would go for the 6000 just because it puts out more lumens. When I switched from the stock 4300K to 6000K, I noticed a decreased in light output. I can't imagine how people could see with 8000K and above....especially in wet driving conditions.

You guys should check out this website...very informative.
