Misfires under load, but restarts fine

I've searched the forum again and found some great ideas on how to fix this.

2001 e430 101k miles

The car runs fine, but put any load on the engine and it starts to misfire and run rough. Cut the ignition, restart and runs fine until I put load on it again.

Getting codes p0300, p0305, p0306, p0307, p0308 consistently each time after I reset using an obd2.

So I've replaced the plugs, no change in symptons. Next going to replace the plug wires. if that doesn't work, then the crank position sensor. If that doesn't work then the fuel regulator.

I'm not sure about the how to check the coils. I can get an ohm meter and
look up the testing procedure. Should I do this before going forward? Anyone have a link handy on how to do this?

Does this sound reasonable? Any other things i can test/check before spending any more money on blindly replacing parts that may be working fine?

Oh, and how do I tell which cylinder is #1 vs. #2, vs. #16, etc...?

Thanks

I am having the same issue.

I am having the same issue in my 1998 E430. I have changed the Mass Air Flow sensor, the plugs were changed about 4 months ago. I am curious to hear any suggestions regarding this matter.

Smile You've only got eight!

From the front looking into the engine bay left side front to back 1,2,3,4 right side (driver side) 5,6,7,8 multi misfires 0300 cyl 5,6,7,8 there is your clue that whole right side is misfiring if the plugs were good as i suspect you have an issue with your injectors on that side.No other codes?unusual to have all the wires and plugs and coil packs to be bad on one side.If you don't and most guys don't have a pc based obd that can read real time diagnostics then it might be cheaper instead of just throwing in parts to have an indie shop or a friend with said unit look at all the injection values.I think therein lies your problem. If it was a fuel (pump ,filter, regulator issue it would be on both sides same with the CPS.Check O2 values on that right bank while you're at it to make sure they are functioning properly. If the upstream O2 sensor failed that would cause that bank to misfire also.BTW you can listen to the injectors with a mechanics stethoscope,if they are working you'll hear them buzzing and clicking on and off.

Smile Also

Clear the codes, but before you do that see if any more codes are stored. Is the CEL on,or were the codes you listed just in storage?Look for wires unplugged, vac hoses unhooked around the fuel rail bank 2 and then if nothing visible get it on the scope.

Hey ROb---How are ur cats??

I had a similar problem with my 99 430. Check engine light coming on and blinking, but I knew that my cat was going cuz it was making a noise.
My scam came up with Misfire on 1234. Changed the cat and all is well now,
dont know if that helps u at all but figured i put my 2 cents in.
