Good Deal?

Hi all,

Looking to buy my first MB. A local dealer, not MB, has a 2002 E430 4Matic with all options including navigation for 22.9K. The vehicle has 50K miles and looks great. No dings or dents. A slight scuff in the front bumper but that's it. The black interior looks great.

So, is this a good deal? Would this still be under MB warranty?

Thanks in advance.

doesn't look like too great of a deal.

a 2002 E430 w/ 50K miles would definitely be out of warranty by now, unless it was CPO'd which would extend the factory warranty to 100K miles..

You could

find better deals by far. They are several thousand over market and 6-7 more then private party.Dealing cash?where located? Not mb dealer no cpo avail so you would need to buy an aftermarket warranty.
23 tho is way to much.
like the make: drive several models 99-02 320 and 430's private party, low miles, well maintained ,inspect, inspect, inspect
ohlord
low mile 99-00 can be had for 9-11k.So shop around and take your time.

Thanks all for the quick replies.

I'm located in CT and the car is sitting at a local Audi/Porsche dealer. I probably see if they would take a much lower price after I drive it. Otherwise, I guess I just need to keep searching.

If you do get one of these cars, get the longest most comprehensive warranty you can.

Thanks for the advice. Is this a common suggestion for this vehicle for it's age? Would it be foolish to "roll the dice"?

Remember

the price is way to high, the dealer knows it and will reluctantly drop it,wincing all the time with how you are trying to low ball him. There is no way he will come down to street price ,so walk.
If you find a low mile 50-90tho in an 99-01 and it is in good shape well maintained and you get it inspected,it is not a gamble to buy private.Dealer price plus an aftermarket warranty and you are twice the value of the car plus finance.Buy cash, learn diy, drive happy

I don't necessarily agree with this if you can't get the warranty. As ohlord also mentioned, if you find a nice preowned MB with even up to and more than 100k miles that has been well maintained, you shouldn't have any major issues if you take care of the car. My last 97 E420 had 140k+ miles before I sold it and I bought it with 100k miles. It ran like new when I sold it and continued to run like new until the new owner wrecked it!

Man you are preaching to the choir. If a Mercedes is inspected by a competent inspector and has been shown by inspection to have all maint and operational issues in place and the car is bought well at the right price(bargain)then you will be a happy owner and in the few cases that you do have to do a repair you won't feel bad because you are way ahead of the guy who paid to much in the first place, financed it because the dealer priced it 5-7 thousand over market, and pays out the ying yang every time he pulls onto the dealer s lot.

Yeah, really guys, this isn't a Pontiac. There are known issues well documented here and other forums. Other than that, you can get a car in this range that is rock solid and will last forever. I hit 115,000 miles and the thing runs perfectly.

Thanks everyone for the guidance. I'm glad I found this forum. I'm going to give it a try but if he does not come down to reality, I will walk.

So if a E430 with low mileage and in great condition should be around 16K, what will the 4matic add to the price? Another 1K?

Forget the 4-matic! If you were prepared to pay $23k, then maybe see if you can find an E55! E55 is an amg model and is da bomb!

I paid 18k for a 2000 E55 with 56k miles last week. It's in perfect condition and has the designo paint/interior package, along with navigation. It came with all service records and runs/rides like new. It just needs detailing, as expected of a car this age. 22k for that E is a massive ripoff. If you look on ebay you can see there are a lot of E55s in that mileage range going for the same or less.

Don't get too exited caeguy because Roy here got a heck of a deal on his car with the designo interior! He should have probably paid at least $2-3000 more! Good job Royboy! Now show me some pics!
