Buyers Help!!!

I am looking at a 1996 MB E300 diesel with 140k. Owners has all maint. records. Owner states that the only known problem is some sort of rubber coupling in the drive shaft, so initial acceleration is delayed. I took the car around the block and could not notice anything.

So, any help in what to look for in a 1996 300 Diesel? Anybody know what part this guy is talking about and the cost to replace.

he is asking 10k, but Kelley's is 6500 in good condition. Any price help here?

300E a couple 1994 w124wagon E320 Wagon/,1971MGB Track/Rally, MG Midget Autocross ,2000 E320 wagon.
So it

is in average condition, needs mechanical repairs and is priced about 4-5 tho more then it is worth? As above ,get it inspected, get it inspected.Never drive a car around the block to deem it nice enough to purchase. You inspect everything and then take it for a nice long ride and then inspect it again. If you are new to the make and not a diy person with the tools and knowledge to inspect the car,do yourself a big favor follow rawimpacts advice,I prefer a good indie that knows their stuff to inspect. If it passes get him down to reality and you might have a deal.
Center bearings ,the bearing housing, and flex discs all are subject to a lot of stress in the D cars more so then the gas cars because of the torque the diesels produce. You would be looking at several hundred dollars in parts plus labor if that is the issue that the seller is claiming delayed acceleration,my opinion is it is transmission related and you should walk.Or get it inspected and takes your chances.
