How to remove black pillar on outside of door?

I have rust on one of the pillar panels and I am looking to remove it so I can sand off the rust, prime, and touch up the area. I see the two screws on the side, but there seems to be something catching the bottom part. Any ideas?

I looked around but didn't find anything off hand. Maybe you could find instructions for one of those carbon fiber replacements from a seller somewhere? Not sure if those fit over the top or replace existing.

Actually, maybe you should just buy the carbon fiber ones!

The black pieces are covers over the actual pillar. Rust there doesn't mean anything other than poor appearance.

You have to remove the horizontal trim below the window - carefully lift it up using a plastic wedge. Then remove the two screws. Then rotate the trim out from the rear. The forward edge is a "U" shape that wraps under the rubber window channel. You might have to slip the rubber channel out of it's seat in the door - not a problem because it isn't glued (window down of course).

The pieces are available as separate parts. If you don't want to buy new, check wrecking yards.
