Instrument Panel Pixelation and Battery Issues

It looks as if the "moody pixels" are a common issue with E320's. The instrument panel pixels (Temp gauge, gears, etc) on my 2002 4matic wagon work when they feel like it. Are there any simple fixes for these problems? Is it indicative of any other, more serious issues?
The car also starts on the 2nd or 3rd try, I think it's a weak battery (jumped it X2). Does the dealer have to replace the battery? Can I pick one up at Costco, etc.?
Thanks in advance.

300E a couple 1994 w124wagon E320 Wagon/,1971MGB Track/Rally, MG Midget Autocross ,2000 E320 wagon.
Do all the

pixels work when they are working?if so pull the cluster and make sure the cable is in firmly.
Battery costco, sams club, autozone interstate as long as it is vented and most come with the vent adapter if needed. diy about 75-90 bucks or call roadside and they will sell you mb battery for more but they come to you.
Have your radio code handy if needed for your model.Did you check the battery output and specific gravity? Is it slow to crank and jumps to life with the aid of a jump?mtp93 I think or equivalent 1000amp diy in your owners manual and then follow the reset procedure for your windows etc.

The pixel repair is around $225, not including shipping.

These cars have massive electrical needs...replace a weak/old battery ASAP.
