![Question](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/icons/icon5.gif)
The check engine light on my car came on last Friday and I also felt the car is running a little rough. Took it to my mechanic and after scanning the codes he told me I have an issue with the MAF or have a vacuum leak. He reset the codes but told me if the car is running rough the lights will come back on again. He is recommending replacing the MAF and all the vacuum hoses.
My question to others who have had the MAF issue is around the vacuum hoses, do I really need to change these or should I change the MAF DIY and see how the car behaves? Also I have searched but didn’t find the DIY link for changing the MAF, if someone has the link that would apply to my 01 W210 kindly reply to this thread.

I love the mechanic's logic. It could be either one or the other, so let's replace all of it. Let's take that a step further and replace the entire car. Problem solved, right?

He changed the MAF for $240 installed and has recommended changing all the spark plugs and the plug wires as the car is approaching 90K. Car rides smooth now with the MAF changed.

Why not
ask here first?maf insert is 139bucks and 10 minutes of your time.
How much is he going to charge you for plugs that you can do the whole job yourself for less then $90 and that's including the $28 special plug boot removal tool i can sell you delivered for $28.
And any mechanic worth his salt knows that if not abused Mercedes coil on cylinder plug wires rarely go bad and need not be replaced especially at 90k miles.
If you are going to inquire as to what to do then why toss good money at some guy who is willing to remove the money from your wallet at the mere suggestion of something he feels you need.
That car is going to get real costly to maintain at this rate![EEK!](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/eek.gif)
