spring pad help
Yo i recently got my spring pads changed at the dealer. Idk which ones they originally were or what they were changed to however after he changed them there was a 1 inch drop in the front. i loved it then after a while, it startrd to rub. so i brought it back, and they put them back on the driver side only. said the spring was rubbing against the frame? does anyone know a way around this and if i was to get new springs and shocks will it do the same?

i don have the first invoice from the spring pad drop on hand ill have to find it but heres the one i just got it says
Front springs rubbing on upper mounts found front springs rubbing slightly on spring mounts removed springs and inserted slightly larger spring rubber.
now the front driver side of the car is higher than the passenger and the rest of the car.
as for specific parts, i really couldnt tell you as of now. i can tell you on the driver side i have a 4 finger gap. on all the other wheels its 3 fingers. and before this it was a 2 finger gap in the front and 3 in the back. (Thats with the supposedly small spring pads)

take a pic and post.
the coil spring fits within the spring pad. when properly sized and fitted, there
is a cushion of rubber surrounding the coil so that there is no metal-
to-metal contact. when you initially said "frame" i pictured the frame of the
car....but I understand now that it is the spring perch which is contacting
the coil.
- why did the dealer swap out the spring pads?
- are you using the stock spring? if not, identify the spring you purchased for
your car.
- the spring pad has a groove which requires the spring to be index and
fitted so that the termination of the coil abuts the end of the groove.
- conversely, the bottom of the coil spring must be fitted so that it ter-
minates against a 'shelf' or metal stop. in other words, both the top as
well as the bottom of the metal coil must be positioned just right.
- to determine if each end of the coil is indexed properly, you will need to
pull the wheel and look. if you cant figure it out, take pics and post.
- if you have larger coil springs, eg made for another vehicle, and installed
in your car, it could cause rubbing
- if you don't know what your original spring pads were......and what they
have been changed to now....it makes it challenging to isolate and trouble-
shoot the cause. based on your rough description, it sounds like you went
from OEM thickness, got thinner ones, then (most recently) was given a
#4 for left/front. but I dont know what all your other ones are.
- it's not possible for you go attain a 1" drop simply by swapping out the pads.
between the thickest....and the thinnest, the net result is 12mm, or 1/2".

OK this is exactly how it went. It was at the dealer and it was getting worked on and my back is lower than my front. it looks bad so i said hey can u make the car lower with spring pads? he said only the front he could do at the time cause he was working on the front springs. he said it would go down about an inch. so i got it back. it was great, there was a 2 finger gap in both driver and passenger side tire to the fender. I drove it for 2-3 weeks. it started making a noise like something was hanging and hitting things. it wouldnt make the noise if i went on a bump, but when i would turn the wheel or press the gas fast and the car would jerk foward, u would hear the noise. so i brought it to mercedes and they said the spring was rubbing against the frame/mounts. and they put the old spring pads back in the driver side only. the passenger is the same lowering. now i can not figure out how over a period of 2-3 weeks this problem would suddenly arise.

they found the sway bar end links to be slightly noisy and they fixed those too. but i think that was ALL they needed to fix to get the sound to go away and they just assumed it was the smaller spring pad on the driver side.
