Need a tire recommendation (235/45/17) for E430 sport

I figured I'd get a more helpful response here than in the tire forum. I'm in Texas so I don't need all-season, just summer.

The most important attributes I'm looking for are ride smoothness and tread life .. the OEM Continentals I'm replacing are fair tires but they wear REALLY fast. My price range is $120 to $160 per from TireRack.

Any suggestions are appreciated!

W210s

are susceptible to road noise after a few thousand miles using a tire with a large tread pattern. A tire such as the factory continentals are great. I would consider staying with the tire the manufacturer installed on the car. I understand that these wear down too fast but considering the actual weight of our w210s, any tire would wear fast if driven spiritedly.

if you don't care that much about performance, but just a comfortable ride with long lasting tires, than i would get the falken 512's. pretty cheap at discounttiredirect dot com, and shipping is free. no need to spend $160/tire when you are not getting a really high performance tire. i don't have falken's personally, but have heard good about them.

Here my experience on various 235-45/17:

1. Factory Conti (forgot the model) - good ride but no grib at all, traction control comes on easily and lasted ~30k (completely bald)

2. Goodyear F1 GS-D3 (1st set) - much improved in handling and you can start pushing towards the limit of the car with stock suspension, very good pricing at ~$149ea, lasted ~15k (pretty much bald), rated 280AA

3. Goodyear F1 GS-D3 (2nd set) - go back for the handling and also good price, handles like a BMW with Bilsten Sport + H&R Sport Springs, lasted ~13k (almost bald), mainly due to harder driving with the suspension change

4. Goodyear F1 All Seasons (current) - willing to sacrifice handling for money as these are rated 400AA, very quiet, smooth ride, quite capable in corner on a day to day commute but take back a bit when pushed still acceptable, highly recommended for the hard earned cash nowadays!

5. (Future) - may look into Bridgestone RE760 rated 340AA at $137ea on TireRack

Just like other said that there are a lot of alternatives for long treadwear and smooth ride but you may look into the All Seaons and brands like Hankook, Kumho, Falken, Sumitomo, etc for savings. I tend to stay on these brands (Michelin, Bridgestone, Goodyear).

Good luck...

make sure to check tire pressure and alignment also worn suspension items. your tires should not be wearing out so quickly.

My vote will be for the michelin pilot sport. I have the 245 front and 275's for the rear. Initially I had to get use to the thires as I was going from the 16' wheels to the 18's but these tires are great.

Look at the survey. They are one of the top 3 that have all green. Then compare prices. I got all 4 of these shipped, mounted and balanced and a 4 wheel alignment for $600. Thats a hell of a deal. They have done great in snow and rain. Very nice tire for the $.

I can recommend Michelin Pilot Sport A/S. At $190 from Tirerack.com they are a little over your range, but are good quiet tires. I have about 16,000 miles so far and they look less than half way worn.

I run a winter set of Michelin Pilot Sport A/S for winter and Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3 for summer. Michelins' last forever. Goodyear gets me about 2 seasons before the rears wear to the bone. I drive 20k miles per year.

Goodyears for all-season (since you are in warm climes) run like a train on rails, in wet and dry.

Here is a tip: Ebay resellers who take lease returns sell lightly used of many brands for a fraction of new. I got a full set of the F1 in the same size as you for less than half of new, and these had 70-80% tread left. Big savings that nobody seems to know about. And I shouldn't post this because I need a pair of F1s for this season.
