Hi all,
as mentioned in a thread in the W202 thread, I'm looking to buy a used E320 or C230/C280, model year between 1997 and 1999, as a graduation present for my wife. I'm leaning towards the E class based on its looks during that period, but I'm still open to advice.
I was wondering if anyone knew of any good, reputable locations to buy one in the NY/NJ/CT area, or if I should just stick with personal sales which do not seem to be as frequent as I'd like and seem to get pounced on quickly.
Thanks!
Jason
P.S. can't wait to be a more 'official' member of this community! Oh, yeah, its for my wife...

thanks oh,
I'm back east in the NYC area. Had cash but didn't want to spend that much with a daughter off to spendy liberal arts college in August...
Today I settled on a 96 E320, ruby red with 154kmi on it. A cheap $4k leaving plenty of room in the budget for some maintenance. I purchased it privately from the woman who owned it since it was purchased and having spoken to the head tech at the dealership that sold and serviced it since 96. 10k ago, it had a major tune up, brakes, sparks, fluids, etc. Last year, it had its AC repaired and new rear tires. I feel pretty comfortable with the purchase. 97/98's could only be found through sketchy dealerships in the $6k range during my search. Not as cool as your ride, but it'll be our start...
I'll start posting some questions and spending more time in the forums. This was a surprise for my wife, who received the car at 3:00pm today before a night out in manhattan with work. She's graduating college, and it'll be our 5th anniversary and her third mother's day so its all rolled in to one big present. She's thrilled and surprised - hopefully it'll be as reliable as I hope it'll be.
Cheers!
