Smile Just swapped out my headlight lenses - big improvement

I was going to buy the high-grit sandpaper and polish them myself, but I'm already in the middle of so many other projects competing for time on the weekends that I gave in and decided to take the shortcut and buy new lenses instead. I bought a set on eBay that came with the housing and gaskets for $160. I then started taking apart the lights to install them myself, but realized that the whole headlight had to come out in order to get at the hidden clips on the outside edge of each housing, which would take longer than I had, so I put it all back together. The next morning on the way to work I dropped it at a local shop, and for $140 they did both sides. The difference is more noticeable in real life, but the pics show the change as well, and I think it makes the car look at lot younger, and less road-weary.

I did the same. Yours before are not so bad. Mine were horrible. I did notice a slight improvement in lighting at night. Maybe it was just me.

hi E4201stmb
could you perhaps give a bit more info on how you would've done it with the sand paper? what grit to get, when u know u can stop sanding the lenses down, how to polish them up after (what product to use etc).
already saw vids online of people doing so, but none had this MB and don't want to mess it up.
thx

If you don't have a high speed rotary buffer, then don't bother.

I read a post by Dr.Benz or DocBenz or someone all about how to do it, search

on polishing lenses or something? The post said to use (if I recall correctly) 6,000 grit and then 8,000 grit sandpaper from Kragen, and to keep water flowing continuosly while doing it so you're wetsanding. The challenge with this approach is that it will never look as clear and clean as new lenses will, and it seems like quite a bit of time and effort to put in to only get 75% of the way there (IMHO)

Good luck with the project, it makes a big diff. in appearance when it's done.
