300E a couple 1994 w124wagon E320 Wagon/,1971MGB Track/Rally, MG Midget Autocross ,2000 E320 wagon.
What year?

Wrap the maf in saran wrap put a piece of plastic bag over the air inlet, with the engine cool spray every thing down with foamy engine brite, stiff brush to scrub heavy deposits, remove engine cover and do it by hand.Let sit for time on can directions and then hose off the engine bay,no pressure no nozzle just regular hose.Remove all plastic coverings and start her up and idle till dry.
Do not do this to an m104 or m119 engine without covering the spark plug area.

You can use other engine cleaners,I just like the gunk foamy stuff because it sort of floats the dirt away from the aluminum engine block on the 112 and 113 engines.

I have been so afraid of this as I did not know how to go about it and I always worried about doing more harm than good. Now I know the process I will do exactly that...

What I've done is use Purple Power. You can buy it at most car parts stores. While engine is cool not hot spray it with water first. Spray the cleaner on the engine, fan belt areas and inner fenders being careful of the intake and coil covers like ohlord suggests. I dont spray the upper part of my engine just the sides, front and fenders. (Dont let it dry as its wont work as well.) Then I use my garden hose with a spray nozzle and hose it off. If you have alot of grease and grim you will see it coming out from under your car so if you have a clean driveway be careful. I sometimes go to the local coin car wash place and use the tire cleaner spray. It works as well but again be careful with the water pressure during rinse. The engine is fairly easy to clean. If you need to do it twice wait a few days and do it again.

Get a few cans of brake parts cleaner and spray down everything with accuracy.
