Costs - Transmission & Plugs - Kansas City

Kansas City Area
'99 E430, 99K Miles

Dealer has quoted:
$380 for Tansmission Flush & New Filter
$750 for Plugs

Are these reasonable prices ? or should I look for a local MB Shop ?

Does anyone know of a quality Kansas City shop they can recommend ?

Any help would be appreciated. Thx

E430 has a converter drain plug You can diy with the special dipstick for the cost of the filter and fluid.,under $200.
or find an indie shop, you do not want it flushed, just drained and changed,mb fluid only.
Plugs you need the 17mm special plug boot removal tool and 16 ngk 7090 plugs $80 total
and a basic socket wrench a few small extensions and a thin walled 5/8 spark plug socket.Takes you under 2.5 hours even your first time.Tools ,plugs and all About 100 bucks, even less if you already have a basic tool set.
PM me if you need the special tools or any tips.Diy on benzworld.org and mercedesshop.com

dealer over $1130 + tax
you under $300

Most of the guys here will agree with Ohlord that you should DIY both jobs. However, it's understandable if you're willing to pay somoene to do the tranny drain & refill, given the mess, under car, used oil, dipstick etc. $380 sounds about $150 too high though.

I really would recommend doing the plugs yourself, though. It gives you a chance to look at (admire) your engine and check for oil leaks etc. As long as you don't overtighten, i.e. use a torque wrench, and don't yank your cables apart, there isn't much chance for damage.
