Cat converter Horror
Well not quite,,i had the telltale rattle in the exhaust system,,thought something was loose.By chance my body shop buddy heard the noise(74,000 miles) and he told me the cats were going. I needed an oul change anyhow so I called the dealer,and it was like hitting lotto.
The job was covered under federal warranty.(all cars 80000)For giggles the bolts were frozen,pipes needed cutting,oh my.The final job would have been 3500$ .
If u have < 80K its a good idea to listen to the car

300E a couple 1994 w124wagon E320 Wagon/,1971MGB Track/Rally, MG Midget Autocross ,2000 E320 wagon.
It
is only good for 8 years/80,000 miles.They would only replace the side that failed if you were past that miles or years,unless they were an unscrupulous
dealer and we all know there are none of those
Lucky you had it happen now.Were both sides gone?
Because if not they will only do the failed side under the warranty and when the other side goes a few thousand miles from now (after 80k miles)you will be paying the other 1700 bucks.
Get just the cat replaced for 65bucks and labor when it does fail.

i had my passenger's side catalytic converter rattle around 75K, dealer replaced it for free no problem... I thought I heard the driver's side rattle around 78K miles... brought it in, the dealer said they couldn't confirm that it rattled. In their defense i only heard it rattle after long trips (60+ miles). Anyway, at around 82K it started to really rattle. Dealer still fixed it for free!!! Maybe it's because I brought it in before 80K and they couldn't hear it... anyway, not all dealers evil, just 99.99% of them.

yes they did both cats,,,hr labor rate of 119. per ..I must confess this car has only cost me an alternator in the time we have been together.Im the orig owner and I'd stack her reliabilty,handling,and post factory get-up to any 6 yr old benz,,or american car. A true tank,with sneakers
