97 E420 Problems shifting out of 1st
Hello, I have run into a problem with my wife's 97 e420. I was searching the forums and have come across this thread
https://mbworld.org/forums/e-class-w210/221423-e420-transmission.html
I am having the same problems. The trans will not shift from first gear. I noticed the second post down
"Did the Wife spill a drink in the shifter?"
Well today my wife had left the sunroof open in the rain and the shifter had gotten wet. The thread never mentioned any other info on the shifter getting wet and shift problems. Could this be the cause? If so what needs to be replace?
Thanks

A spilled drink oftentimes fries the shifter on the electronic trans. Easy repair, but not inexpensive.
The scanner mentioned in the other post isnt available any longer. For $50 it was just a simple OBDII scanner only capable of reading emission codes and 1 genreic PO715 trans code.
To see the underlying trans codes and adaptation values you'd need a MB laptop with SDS or similar high end shop quality scanner. SDS runs ~$12k + 3K per year updates IIRC.
