When did you replace alternator?

At what mileage did your alternator go?
the alternator on my car just died and i got it replaced for:
395 for part, 95 for labor so roughly 500 bucks.
I noticed autohausaz has it for 215 dollars. I was 300 miles from home so I had to get it done.
I was just curious, when did yours go and how much did it cost to replace? or how long did it take you to replace if you did it yourself?
my car was at 89K miles.

I have never needed to replace an alternator, with cars going up to around 160K miles. The brushes/regulator usually need replacing in the 120K range.

things with and without wheels
The alternator went on my car at little over the 100k miles. i bought it from the dealer since they had it on hand as opposed to the parts stores that would have me waiting for a day or two. i did the job myself and it took me about an hour, charging the battery included.

Both of mine are OE; as are brushes and regulators.

Are you sure it was the alternator that went bad and not the voltage regulator?

It usually

is the regulator, but now he need worry no moreinstalled for a fair price compared to some of the horror stories some members have of over $900 for alternator and labor at a dealer

Any chance you'd be willing to do a write in case someone else needs to replace theirs?

I'm assuming mine is the original

If not it's been running my jalopy for 120K miles sinece purchase. I have wondered though. Bought the car at 96K miles and now I'm at 215K and it a 96. My old W201 (yes a 190E 2.6) went through alternators every 60-80K, I leearned the cheap way out, change the volt regulator myself for $20-30 and all was well! Job took anywhere from 1 hour (1st time) to 15 minutes (last time).
