Benz E320 - year 2002
No AM Reception
Hi everyone!
We just purchased a 2002 E-320. Last week, we realized that we were not able to get any AM channels (none at all), not even static. It just searches for a station and runs through the channels without getting even one station.
The previous owner left a huge packet of information which we read today, and it seems that he has tried to get the AM reception fix at the Dealer, but no luck.
Any suggestions or remedies for this problem? I need my AM channels!!
Thanks

Check that the
am/fm diversity antenna is plugged in.located in a flap up above the c pillar drivers side head liner.open it up and make sure it is all plugged in.Sometimes even a good wack with the palm of your hand will get it turned on.The am antenna is in the rear window in sedans and on the side window in wagons,if you have metallic window tint installed it can cut out am reception.

if this does not work the am section of the radio may be toast.
in that case

plug and play with the cd changer in the trunk/single cd unit in dash.

A common cause of no AM but OK FM is due to loss of ground somewhere in the antenna lead wire (from radio to antenna). The ground is the foil shield and if it's broken the signal will be too low to hear. So check the connections as suggested as the break is often near them. If not and you have a multimeter try doing a conductivity test on the shield. Good luck.
You may want to find a local auto radio shop which specializes in German cars.

Even with solid connections my experience has been that AM reception on 210's and 163's (M-class) sucks. They probably eliminated the step to "check for good AM reception" in an effort to shorten development leadtimes.

E430 4matic 2001 & ML430 2000 both Silver / Ash
I have both E and M-class cars. On my ML-430 AM is a bit weaker than my E430. As Ohlord and RichardM98 stated there must be a bad socket connection somewhere.

My AM reception sucks. My son always complains when he wants to listen to baseball games. It is particularly bad when driving near high tension power lines.
