Oil suction method is great!

First time using this method... and it actually removed more oil than through the oil drain plug. I used to drain the oil the traditional way and I am now convinced that this suction method is better in terms of removing more old oil from the pan. I would say about 1/2 quart more.

Easier

neater.Park it level and pump it out
Another convert
no lifting,no worry about getting the plug into the best drain position,no removing plastic shield.
Priceless.

0w40 mobil1 and fleece filter and you are done in 1/4 the time

It's the intended method by design.

No car manufacturer covers the bottom of the engine compartment and expects you to remove them to change oil.

It does not take that long

to remove the bottom cover. There are still lots of people who still don't believe in the suction method.

I admit I was skeptical at first...not no more...saw it with my own eyes that it removes more oil from the pan.
I used to drive my car onto a home built ramp that would raise the front left tire (driver side) up 3-4 inches to tilt the pan towards the drain plug and still that did not drain as much as the suction method.

Mityvac 7201 Fluid Evacuator Plus

I got mine through Amazon for $65 shipped.
This model has a switch/valve so that you can pump the collected oil to another container if you wish to use it....kinda nice feature.

Looks like an identical unit to the lower priced Mityvac 7400. No reverse pumping so you must pour out the oil into a container.

We have a boat with a Diesel engine that has a separate oil evacuation tube as part of the engine design. You simply tap into the evacuation tube fitting that is plumbed directly down to the lowest point of the sump and there is no need to snake down the oil fill. Wouldn't it be nice if the auto transmission had a similar fitting?

They all do the same thing...I got this model because

it can hold up to 8 liters...I did not want to buy a smaller one and have to stop to dump it once or twice because of the smaller capacity.
We do have up to 8 quarts of old oil in our model.
quart/liter...is almost the same.

Product Features
Features a large 8.8 liter (2.3 gallon) capacity bi-functional manual unit to extract and dispense a wide-range of fluid types
Clean and simple way to evacuate and dispense fluids
Reservoir is constructed of durable polyethylene and will not rust or corrode
Automatic flow control valve prevents the unit from overfilling during use and automatically shuts off at 8 liters
Kit comes with 5 feet of flexible hose and two rigid dipstick tubes for engine oil removal

Remember

you never get it all out.Part of the oil is in the internals and oil passage walls for start up protection.plus if you loosen the filter cap after the first few qts more flows and then you have the oil that is clinging to the filter. So you are getting close to the best you can get.8.5qts

Mine is measured in Liters..

and I was able to get about 1/2 an inch above the 7-liters mark. Like I had mentioned ..liters/quarts are not that far off.
From my experience... I am able to get about 7 to 7.5 quarts of fresh oil in after an oil change.

Just keep an eye on the pump discharge hose if you use an electric pump. It can get brittle and break, and one dirty oil mess on your garage wall will make you wish you had stuck with that most ancient and stable of all sources, gravity.

Previously I had mentioned that I was

able to suck out about 1/2 quart out more than the convention method. It is actually closer to 1 quart...which is alot.
My car computer displayed ADD 1 qt. last night....which makes up a total of 8
new quarts. of new oil added...previously I was only adding 7 qts. after the convention method.

I do it the old fashioned way (from the bottom) and always need to add 8.5 qts. One thing to note is when you install the new filter, you have to twist and push it all the way on. The position it stops at first is not completely on and it's easy to not realize it. There are 2 lines printed on many filters and when it's properly installed all of the way, only one of the lines is visible.

Very true about those 2 lines on the filter...

you really have to twist it on tight to get the filter to seat all the way up properly..until only one line is visible. In the past I was afraid to break the filter housing if I twist on the filter element too hard and so I was still able to see 2 lines which was the incorrect way. Wonder if that really caused any major problems???

I used to change it the old fashion way...

through the drain plug...and I believed they just started putting those 2 lines on the filter recently...maybe the last year or so...
If that is the case...then they have forgotten to tell us how to properly seat the filter element in the first place...I think most people would stop twisting the filter on once they reach the initial resistance.

I know that last I've changed the oil 3 times without fully seating the filter. The last oil change I noticed the filter slipped off a few inches when I pulled out the filter housing. Oh well. I know the new filter is on correcty now.

Sounds like a good device. I read some reviews about the Mity Vac 7201, about 80% positive ,20% negative... Could it be that owners don't use it correctly? Could it be that the device was defective? Does it work on ALL cars? Can you guys who have had success in using this unit tell us the best way to use this? I am ready to buy one but I need some more details. Thanks. Is Mity Vac 7201 is the best on market today?

I have the Tempo Oil Boy that is great and is the best I've seen first hand. It is probably made by the same manufacturer as the Miti Vac. But the 7201 looks like an upgrade to the Oil Boy. Larger capacity and a reverse pump.

It only makes sense to do the suction method only if the oil filter

can be replaced from the top as well. If the filter had to be removed from underneath the car than I would not bother with the suction method since I would have to crawl underneath the car anyway. Since our W210 oil filter is accessible from the top..the suction method makes sense since there would be no need to crawl under the car. I agree that is good to get under the car once in awhile to inspect things....but if you have not ran over anything than most likely things should be good...if there was an oil leak of some sort you would see it on the ground anyway.

Oil extractor...

I've been using a marine Topsider oil extractor on all of my cars for the last 3 years. There something slightly cleaner about avoiding the underside of the car once and a while. Here are the photo's of my marine topsider, and the cars which benefit...
I sold the miata, it was just too damm small, I never felt safe in it...

The only downside, I only get 7.0 quarts out using this method...
