E420 MAF S210 vs W124
have the S210 E420, which is the same M119 engine as in the W124 E420. Question to you E420 owners: have some issues finding a decent MAF... takes 3 months till a store can deliver me a Bosch unit at about $600 (mind you, in Germany)
but in that unit is only the sensor that needs replacing, any luck getting just that sensor insert somehow?
Also, i can't seem to get to that screw to undo the band around the unit (if i were to replace completely). tight space and things are in the way. Any of you out there who has managed this, and how?
appreciate yr input
sometimes i regret not getting the E320... soooo much easier to find parts (and at decent prices)
cheers
420 maf diy on benzworld.org w210 diy section hope it helps.Have you tried cleaning with maf cleaner?

I know there is another diy if you search.Did you pull a maf code like the most definetely bad p0100?or just the falling out of range p0170 and p0173? the latter two respond to cleaning most of the time.

thx for stepping in.
car has about 95k miles on it now, and want to do some maintenance.
i know, from all the threads i read all accross forums, that the MAF is a due item anyhow, so thought i'd bite the bullet as my mileage or responsiveness of the engine is decreasing (at least subjectively). i did not read out codes yet, because my experience is when it comes that far it will usually get more expensive for me and at a worse timing (ie, after i took up my holidays to deal with all of it myself and at ease).
Along with the maf, i am thinking O2 sensors for sure. Also some bushings on swaybar, and other parts in that area, plus new shocks, brake light switch, etc.
how about the camshaft drive train? i read it is a sensitive item also and the chain needs to be replaced before it breaks (totalled engine).
anyhow, an avid reader of these forums (hence, also your responses to threads), so learned a lot already. Slowly but surely increasing my mechanic skills by applying it in real life

cheers
