1999 E320 4matic Wagon
Sunroof stuck
My 99 E-320 Wagon sunroof is open and I can't close it. I tried the manual crank, and it won't budge. It is possibly off the track. First I couldn't close the Popup, then I opened the slider and it won't come back. How do I fix it?

Don't
force anything.First you need to check that the system is getting the signal from the switch.Have you tried to close it with the remote control feature?

I cleaned my tracks and drains and lubed the cables a long time ago,to avoid the problem. You may just need to go slowly and see if it has risen out of place.
hope the video helps.

Thanks for that information. Yes I tried the remote and it didn't work. Neither did the manual crank. I will peruse and absorb the info you sent, and I hope to fix it. I am not as handy as I once was, but I won't force it.

sunroof stuck
Saturday 8
I looked at the video, and started to disassemble. The cables and guides seemed to be OK. I decided to try the hand crank again, and with a lot of effort very slowly, I managed to close the slide. It seems lubrication of the cable is needed. I doubt it was ever done. So how do I lube it and what do I use for lubrication? It seems there is a special oil?
Thanks to everybody on this site for help the last couple years.

Dealer
has the lube.I suppose any good sunroof lube can be gotten from a local parts store instead of having to buy a whole jug from the dealer.Who really needs a 4 oz. tub?Or do they get one out when they see a Mercedes owner pull up to the shop![EEK!](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/eek.gif)

I would just have a dealer lube the cable, and have them do the tracks, etc. while they're at it. It shouldn't cost very much and you should be good for as long as you own the car. That is, unless there are other useful applications for the MB lube. The only ones I can think of are possibly for the hood, trunk, and door latches.

I had a similar problem where the window would tilt up but not back down, or slide back but not forth. My mechanic reprogrammed it by fiddling at the ignition for a minute, and voila.

An end-user amount of the MB sunroof lub is available from Fastlane at the MercedesShop site and the BuyMBParts site. Last I checked it was about $10 compared to $70 for 4 oz at dealer.

A lot of good information there. Since I don't use it much, I will just keep it closed, although I dislike having anything on my cars that doesn't work.
An aquaintance MB mech, said it may just need to be synchonized.
Thanks to the group!

Synchronized
is just a matter of switching it all the way open and holding the switch there for a few seconds and doing the same procedure on closing.Same with the windows.Your problem is greater than that if you could hardly get it done with the bypass crank.

OL, thanks for that info. I will just leave it for now, since it is closed. It sure makes a lot of wind noise when it is open! I had to tape cardboard over the opening to get my wife to the doctor when it was stuck open.

Update: I went to a recommended MBZ shop and he fixed it in 10 minutes by Synchronizing the sunroof. No Charge. His shop is in Los Gatos, CA.
Thank you all for the assistance
