Automatic transmission not shifting up

Since last winter my automatic transmission started to hesitate when it's cold. it's like, when i give her more gas it will rev more but it won't shift into the second gear. Well after warmiing it up for a while it would drive normally.

This winter, it won't shift at all even after 20~30 minutes of warming up. What is wrong with my transmission? Is this an infamous trouble among Mercedez?

Hi -
Please complete your profile with Model Year and your location when you have a chance.

I would suggest you get your transmission diagnosed by a good independent MB mechanic or at the dealer. Everyone hopes slippage is due to low fluid level but most often it's something worse. Best of luck.

Thank you for the reply. It's a '99 E320 (I'll complete he profile asap) and the transmission fluid level was ok. I have sent it to a mechanic(he's not a MB specialist but he told me that MB's do that a lot) and he changed a part(around $700 part+labor) last winter. This winter it started doing the same thing aain. Any inputs?

He prob replaced the conductor plate and hopefully updated the seals to your trans electrical harness with the updated parts at the same time.

Have the codes scanned using SDS by a competent tech who can understand the trans adaptation values. That will tell them what is wrong more than likely. Dont "wipe" the ecu memory (promoted here too often) until thats done.

300E a couple 1994 w124wagon E320 Wagon/,1971MGB Track/Rally, MG Midget Autocross ,2000 E320 wagon.
Nobody

promotes ECU wiping.Resetting trans adaptation values in the TCU is fine and will not erase any codes available for the sds to read.
Check the electrical connector for the common leak.

So this is more like a software problem?

I mis-spoke concerning tcu wiping erasing adaptation values. They do remain.

There are times when the dealer and their ability to scan every module and see live/stored data is your best bet. Trans fall into that category IMO, at least from a diagnosis standpoint. Lacking codes, competent review of how the trans has been adjusting itself internally will usually lead the tech to the problem.

Do you have the factory tool to check fluid level? W/O it you can't possibly know the level is correct.

Be gentle with it, when they "go" they seem to go in a hurry.

What mileage does it have? Your indie used the proprietary MB fluid to refill it last year, right?

My car has about 160,000 miles on it. I am not sure whether he used the MB fluid or not, but he said there was no leakage from the transmission. So if it "goes" i'm gonna have to replace the whole transmission? Happy Thanksgiving everyone btw.
