$8900 E55 ?!?

MBenz E55 (1999) Clean Title, 85,000 miles. Needs minor parts and some body repair.

$8900 AS IS

http://sfbay.craigslist.org/sby/cto/943905156.html

Is this an opportunity or a disaster waiting to happen?

Hmmm, "as is" is too risky, plus they are going out of business for a reason. Looks like it might need alot of work. Best thing you can do is check it out, BEFORE you buy. Good luck.

the engine might run, but maybe its screwed up and like misfires and stuff or maybe it was abused as a youngster?

Ask the guy for close-up photos of the body work it needs. I can't see anything dented or rusted in his ad.

In the picture it looks to me as if the front bumper is missing, the hood is a different color, and I'm guessing there's something wrong with the front driver's side of the car because of the angle of the pictures.

x2 The hood has been replaced and yet to be painted. I hate people that take pictures of wrecked cars like this...........you'll see them all day long on ebay. The car has obviously(to me at least) been wrecked on the drivers' side front and possible entire side and they just took pictures of its best side.

How do you gather that based on these two poor pictures? (Not critical, just curious)

What is the emblem on the side trim just behind the front wheel? looks like my "Sport" badge, which would be odd thing to have on an E55.

Wheels appear correct for a 99 AMG.

If you are truely interested in the car, do as Ohlord says and run the vin, then do a carfax. Then with both in hand, take the short drive and visit the car. Frankly, looking at his lot...... I'm guessing you are looking at the bottom of the barrel and would spend $$$$$ to get the car up to snuff.

Looks like a fun project for a DIY'er, as long as there is no severe daamge, i.e. frame, etc...

The hood is a replacement unit. The black is the protective primer.

Or maybe it would make a good beater. You could have a lot more fun driving an E55 that you wouldn't have to worry about ruining than you might if it were a really nice car.

if you can get the price down it could be worth it to part it out.

Looks like E320/E430 SPORT that is trying to be E55 AMG! I could be wrong though.
