Dim Clock & Pass. Rear Mirror tilt problem

I have 2 problems recently and want to find out if these are DIY keeping in mind that I am not too handy.

1. Clock is running fine but the brightness is mostly dim but back to normal once in a while. Dealer is pointing to light bulb replacement and looking for $200. Do I need special tool to extract the instrument? Is this tricky to do? Steering wheel off, short wires behind that may come loose, etc. Any details write up with photos?

2. Pass. rear mirror is giving clicking sound in auto tilt down/up when backing up. Seems like some stop position/sensor is out of place. Again dealer is asking $400 for a replacement. Is this another easy DIY? Any writeup with photos?

Thanks ahead.

Bad or loose bulb. Check the DIY's in the W210 forum at www.benzworld.org for pulling instrument cluster. Two approaches -- buy (or make if you're handy) cluster hooks and pull it out. More of a rocking technique -- first one side a little then the other until it's free. Or remove lower dash panel below steering shaft and reach up and push out. Or a little of both. Can be a little stiff if not removed for a long time. While you've got it out replace ALL the bulbs. Since if ones gone the others are probably not far behind.

You'll have to take mirror apart to see what the problem is. Sometimes just debris. Should be a DIY on mirror as well.

Good luck.
