Wink Outside Mirror Glass Replacement

Any advice on replacing driver's side mirror glass? My self-dimming mirror took on a brownish cast around the perimeter about a year ago, it is not cracked, it just looks slightly brownish around the edges. Brought the car in last week for NJ DMV inspection and was unfortunate enough to get Chucklehead Charlie who rejected the car for soley this reason. He realized it was not cracked, motor worked fine, etc. but said it looked a little tinted on edges. I called MB Parts who said there is only one glass replacement option for my 2001 E320 4matic wagon and it it $600+ for just the part and it is self dimming and comes with no instructions whatsoever so recommends bringing to service (to really jack up the price). Best online I could find was $500+ price and no instructions EXCEPT the OEM Parts Direct shows a "non-glare" version for like only $75. Does the non-glare work- does it heat, pivot just like the the onr that costs 10X more? Am I just screwed and need to head for the stealer for a quick fleecing?

my brother has 00 E320 and needed the driver side, self dimming replaced. it
took me less than 5 mins to remove and install. dont know how this differs
from your model. i didn't test to ensure self dimming still works with the new
mirror....yet.

basically, there is one wire latch, as well as half dozen plastic latches which
are aligned before snapping into place.

i hope yours ends up being so simple. i have no first hand knowledge yet on
the heating abilities of the replacement. it pivots as directed and then we
declared it functioning.

i'll try to see if i can find out if there is any more info, eg part # etc

here are photos from an earlier w210 < 2000

The Outside mirror cover MUST be removed to replace the Mirror Glass

Fold the mirror back and use a flat blade screwdriver to release the metal spring clip ..Its can be seen once the mirror is folded back...Then slide the cover off... Release the metal arm that secures the mirror.. Then Slide the Outside mirror cover off

Mark and Raynond, this was excellent and I liked the UTube video which makes it simple to see. I'm picking up the self dimming mirror this afternoon, I decided to replace like for like and not investigate the "non-glare" (I assume it means non-dimming) version although it is very inexpensive if it still heats/pivots.

It is my understanding that there are an unusual number of cracked driver side rear view mirrors in very recent model MB sedans, not sure but perhaps mostly E class. Apparently these cracks are related to cold weather, and occur without anything striking the mirror. Currently mirror replacements are back ordered in the U.S.

They did mine under warranty on the driveway, pop it off move connectors, and snap it on.
What I cant understand is that they charged warranty for the entire mirror when I looked up the part # (210-810-13-21), could they have just pulled the glass from one in parts?

I need to do this repair as well. I've been checking websites to see if I can find the part a little cheaper than the dealer. Please chime in if anyone finds a cheaper solution than the dealer.

coincidentally, the subject in the above photos is a spare, so I do have a
spare, 90% condition driver side mirror available for pre-facelift 210. it
functioned perfectly for heat, and auto dim. $75 shipped to anywhere USA.

left side mirror glass

I just got one from M Europarts out of Miami, Fl. They have a website but I bought mine from ebay and it is supposedly oem and I paid $203 for it. I received it and it appears to be the genuine article.

Just got 1999 e430, outside mirror on the right side is broken (plastic that hold spring inside was broken) and will need a replacement. Where to get a new part for a decent price? It seems like the passenger side is more difficult to find, right? I got a brand new assembly with no glass no casing for driver side from e-bay for $120 plus shipping, but haven't had time yet to explore whether it will fit nicely with my car.

By the way, thank you for the above information. That helps me feel much more comfortable playing around with it.

I just wanted everyone to know that Ray provided fast shipping of the mirror after I sent him payment. The mirror arrived as he had described and works well. Just wanted to let everyone know that he has my "transaction trust".
