New problem in reverse gear

Just recently, when backing up after a cold start, the engine vibrates with a deep groan. It seems to go mostly away after the car has been warmed up. There is no problem in neutral or any forward gear. Of course my first guess is the transmission. I had the fluid and contact plate changed out about 2 years ago.

Any ideas?

I have

I have the same problem, but mine is also there sometimes even after the car has warmed up. I have to push the gas pedal a lot just to get it to move in reverse. The engine starts rumbling really bad and the car feels like its dieing to hold on.

Any ideas, anyone?????

I don't have any ideas except to say that if the transmission is going south, I think you'd also notice irregularites in one or more of the forward gears.

As Ohlord above,, just been on thread on same problem, the disc joint on the propshaft was shot, due to collapsed engine mounts throwing the drive chain out of line

That sounds reasonable. I have been looking to get the mounts replaced just out of suspicion that after 10 years and 120k miles, they just may be shot.

Have Wolfgang "flush" the tranny while you're there. It makes a world of difference.
