xenon lights w/o projectors?

I am not a big fan of the projector w211 style headlights on a w210, but definitely want to upgrade to HID lights. How is the headlight cutoff with factory halogen housings & HID bulbs/ballasts? I've been trying to find a set of OEM HID housings, but they don't seem to be very common...

300E a couple 1994 w124wagon E320 Wagon/,1971MGB Track/Rally, MG Midget Autocross ,2000 E320 wagon.
Bad to

very bad.The reflector and lens were not designed for hid in the halogen buckets.Polish them up and install H7 65 watt rally h7's from danielstern or build yourself a set of 800 buck depo projector conversions.

the OEM headlights have high beam performing as candle lights anyways...

The beam pattern on w210 halogen with hid is not either worse or better than average, meaning it will cause too much glare. It's illegal. You should get yourself some OEM xenon lamps or do a depo conversion...

But just as you know it, either way it will still be illegal, even though it will not cause any problems. You need auto adjustment of the headlights for it to be legal on the road. and headlamp washers..

Are you saying that you need headlamp washers if you have HID? Never knew that.

Interesting.....but except for those old MB wipers, I've never seen a headlight washer do much more then simply wet down the dirt.

I have DEPO headlights with Hella bi-xenon projectors and clear projector lenses. This makes a razor sharp cutoff. One day I was driving, it was not raining, but the roads were wet and filled with salt probably... I noticed I couldn't see the cutoff line as I used to. I guessed it maybe was because of the road glare from the wet road. But I had a couple of sprays on the headlights and after the washer fluid had been blown away because of the speed I could see the cutoff again.

So the reason for the washing system is to reduce glare caused by dirty lenses.
