extended warranty with additional two year due to class action suit "oil sludge"
Car cranks but won't start. Almost sure that I need new starter...
Extent warranty expired 10/08, however there was a civil lawsuit (Civil action no 01-2902) against Mercedez which denied any wrongdoing but agreed to settle by giving the owner an additional two year or 150kmiles...
The lawsuit was about switching to synthetic oil which might cause oil sludge/engine damage, which has nothing to do with my car, since it always used synthetic oil...
The wording on the settlement is rather confusing (too me).
So my question is, the additional 2 year warranty is only covered specific to oil sludge engine damage or general overal coverage on the first 8 year warranty.
Just want to see if Mercedes Benz will pay for the starter.
thanks

it applies to the 8/80 cat warranty and the conventional oil issue subject to a few early years and oil consumption of 1 liter per 600km.If my engine went through that much oil i could care less the extended warranty.
Test you starter test your charging system under load.Replace it yourself.
www.autohausaz.com carries them
or you can get a wrecking yard checked out unit with a warranty.
