High Beams won't work on 2001 E320

I just bought a 2001 E320. The high beams won't work when I move the stalk. Every thing else on the lever works. Any suggestions?

Do they work when you flash them in the other direction?

Have you checked the high beam fuse?

fuses

3 and 5 in most models.Located in the fuse box behind the plastic flap on the side of the dash located next to the headlight switch.
Also get out your multimeter and check continuity of both high beam bulbs located in the small oval lamps with the city lamps..

keep us posted with your progress.Always start with the simple and progress towards the more difficult solutions(like r/r the stalk.

Sorry for the delay. I checked the fuses - they are okay. I have no inside garage, just a carport and it was 15 to 20 degrees below zero out for the last week. Not real inspired to spend much time outdoors. Will do the continuity check later today. By the way, after three weeks of driving this E320 and never before having been in a Mercedes as a driver or passenger - damn! I love this car.

Well, the bulbs are okay. It must be the switch. Everything on the switch works except: 1) the high beam/low beam portion; 2) the flash for the high beams when pulled backwards; 3) when I put the wiper in position # 1, the wiping action is not intermittent, it's at a slow constant speed. Also, the high beam indicator light does not illuminate in the instrument cluster when the stalk is worked. I'm a little hesitant to mess around with the steering wheel - the air bag has me leery. What is a Service A? I have a couple of thousand miles to go before I have to worry about that, but I am curious.

If you disconnect the battery the air bag is no issue

you will just need to get it reset on a sds machine if enough drive cycles don't turn it off.Stalk repair on www.benzworld.org w210 diy section.
A service is a glorified oil change.
mobil 1 ow40 syn mb spec oil.Check belt and hoses, top up fluids ,change air filter.etc.All stuff you can do.Most diys are on www.benzworld.org w210 diy section and www.mercedesshop.com or ask here.Parts at www.autohausaz.com or I can get some for less than them.
Idea of what it entails, when done you reset your own service light.
No trip to the dealer needed
