If i wanted to install a pair of factory HID headlights into a car that didnt have HID. Is it straight forward plug n play? Or is there a lot of work involved. THanks.

Usually no coding is needed. When using OEM ballasts there will be no problem with bulb warning.

not 100% sure on W210, but on W203 and W211, u do need version coding even with OEM ballasts

They have much more advanced electronics. On 210 you shouldn't need any coding.

Ok, i didnt want to start a new thread.
I got some oem xenon off of ebay and one of them is not working. Its not the bulb, because i swapped the bulb with the working headlight. I'm thinking it has to be the ballast. Anyway to trouble shoot it? Can i just get the ballast from the dealer or do i have to get a whole headlight assembly. Thanks.

do similar, ie swap suspect ballast to other side. if it works, then it's another
problem you'll need to isolate. do *not* buy from dealer or be ready for a
price quote guaranteed to make chuck norris cry like a little gurl. heck, I've
purchased OEM take off ballasts off Ebay from sellers with good feedback and
have not had any problems over the past 4 yrs. heading over to HIDPLANET.
COM is another thought (or others). up to you though.

I know this is an old thread that got dug up but I just wanted to add to the OP that when I swapped my 2001 E430 lights for a set of E55 HID's it was 100% plug and play.

Thanks alot. I will try swapping that and the bulb plug also. THe ballast looks a little tougher to takeoff.

The ballasts are real easy to remove. Just unscrew the metal covers under the headlamps and unplug.

Don't forget the change in bumper covers for the headlight washer systems (left and right) along with the extra reservoir that attaches to the washer bottle. Xenons in the USA are required by federal DOT law to have the headlight washer systems I would assume to avoid any scattered glare from dirty headlamp housing lenses. These lights are 3X brighter than standard halogen bulbs.
