Need Help - e320
I have a 2001 e320. Recently was told I had a bad catalytic converter. The converter was making a lot of rattling noise. Just last week the rattling stopped. The same day my check engine light came on and the car was unable to shift. I believe it went to limp mode. Had the following codes read:
P0300
P0304
P0305
P0406
All misfire codes. I had spark plugs changed and the condition has worsened. The car will stall, even when in neutral. No power at all. Any advice?

Best guess is the cat has become restricted or plugged with loose debris and the sensor is reading restricted air flow and is forcing you into limp mode to keep the air flow rate down. Either way suggests best course is to replace the cat. They have been known to go around 80-100K miles. Suggest Indy shop or DIY in forum if you are handy. Do not go the dealer route as the cost is very high. OhLord can read the codes for you but will probably give you similar thoughts.

You nailed it.
4,5,6 are his whole drivers side bank 2 row of cylinders.Cat rattling
lean condition misfires on all those plugs.If you are not in California you can get an oe universal cat for about 60 bucks from racepages or eastern cat and have it spliced in at any good custom muffler shop.Call around there is also a magnaflow universal unit that will work.
unable to shift or limp mode just 2nd gear and reverse?

How many miles on the 01?If under 80k and depending on the date it was first put in use ,you may be still under the 8/80k mile warranty on the cats.Check with your local dealer.If past those date /mile strictures ,just splice in the universals.

The car has 104K. Right now the car will not run at all. Stalls within seconds of starting. Initially, when it went to limp mode, I was able to manually shift but the car was very resistant. The next day, I took for a ride and had to feather the gas. It was no longer in limp mode, but any pressure on the gas caused Engine light to blink.

complete blockage of cat,first they rattle and then the whole core fries and in effect strangles your engine down to 3 cylinders and it does like like to run on three
you can cut out that cat or punch a hole in it and remove the core and the engine will be loud but it will run and get you to the exhaust shop,if your insurance has no towing coverage.Or find someone with one of those AAA courtesy free tow cards.
