Vacuum pump help!

Can anyone tell me if you can hear the vacuum pump under the rear seat running? Mine runs for a few seconds then stops then starts again.
Everything seems to be running fine in my car. Vents and locks are all good.
Thanks!

yes that is a perfectly normal sound to here once you turn the key to on. You are pressurizing the fuel system.

Thanks but I think mine runs constantly.
Is that normal?

Mine is loudest on start up. I guess it's pressurizing itself. Either there's too much ambient noise when I'm moving or the pump isn't running after start up. Going to ask my boy to listen more carefully when I get a chance.
Thanks!

I spoke without thinking that through. When I turn the key to position 2 (right before cranking) there is a slight "whirring" sound but that appears to come from the front somewhere. I should add that I have a minor hearing deficit so that might explain a mis-perception. You're welcome.

I believe the nav/COMAND system spins up a fan when you turn the car on. I believe that's the noise from the front. It appears to also run for a little bit after turning the car off.

The air pump also powers the multicontour seats in the E55 and some other cars that are equipped with it. Renn, do your seats (it appears you have an E55) inflate properly?

My vacumm runs every two seconds for about two seconds but my locks work. How does on one check for leaks?
