To shift and back...

A new issue has arisen. It deals with the shifter. I shift into drive and then try to downshift to first (summer) or to 2nd (winter) and it will go down to the desired gear when I pull the shifter to the left but when I let go it goes back into drive??? What gives. This started yesterday. Any ideas out there?

Try preforming the tranny reset procedures. It could be a problem with the adaptive values.

It does go all the way to first when pulled to the left. when I release it then it goes all the way back to D drive. Otherwise it shifts through the gears just fine while driving, starting out in first and so on. I pulled the unit apart to look for obstructions and there is nothing. Also there are two small holes on the top left front and rear corners and they are vacant just like my original one. Is there supposed to be a screw in there to secure the two parts? Just curious. I have tried with and with out the screws and there is no difference in the shifter not staying in first. The TA at the dealer thought the module was bad and that the shifter needs replacing. Quoted me 438 plus labor. I told him I had a better source at much less cost and that the repair procedure is not too challenging. He is a good guy to talk with and fair. Does power need to be cut when tinkering with this unit and could that cause issues if not? It has been a while since I did this repair last year. Any more thoughts?
