Headlight Refinishing
Has anyone tried the headlight lens restoration produce from Permatex? I tried the buffing pads from CCP but they didn't do much. I was expecting better results but it was mediocre at best. The Permatex kit comes with differing grits of sandpaper up to 3000 and a polish.

If gentle buffing did not do the trick then I would begin with a 2000 grit paper and see if that removes what you need. I would not go for the most aggressive grits first as they will cut the deepest and then you will end up sanding done to the depth of those scratches to remove them. Start soft and go more aggressive if you need to. My final buff out was with a product at PepBoys for lens polishihng aND IT WORKED GREAT ALONG WITH THE THREE INCH RANDOM ORBITAL POLISHER FROM gRIOT'S gARAGE DOT COM FOR ABOUT 80$. Or wait a week and follow the diy I will post here. My camera card reader is at home on the west coast and I am working(hobby) on an Mb collection in Iowa.
If you do it right they come out clearer than when new. And then you install the 65 watt rally bulbs from www.danielsternlighting.com and really light up the night.

Mine look like new now, after a two-tier process. First, I used the Permatex pack from the store, which made a signifigant difference. Then, I buffed on a quality polishing wax (Zymol in this case), which really fine-tuned 'em. I can actually see the insides of both the low beams and the city lights now, and have noticibily better light on the freeway.

check out Amazon, when they have it I think it's even less than $18 with free shipping.
I've done three headlights so far and have only had positive results using the 3M kit. Very fast.

My GMC’s are about as translucent as cataracts.
Did the 3M kit work well on yours?
