its just a question of do you have the right tools for the job..

I have just change in this order, the air filter, fuel filter, wd40 + clean wastegate..

I have inside my car, a oil filter, tranny pan gasket,+ trans filter + crush nut washer + dipstick cap and will be getting the fluid asap.. from mercedes .. as I have decided to do a partial drain and refill with 4 ltrs then in a few weeks i will drain fully when I can buy 8+ ltrs of ATF cheaper * when I find it *...

So all I need is oil and atf ... to do More then what a dealer would... and believe you me that is more then a B service will ever be ... when it comes to the mechanics of the car ... they might find some amazing computer faults and beable to reprogram things nice again.. or spot real running gear issues .or replace a bulb, or decide to inform you that the visor is damaged cause of a small relay that costs 50p and say it will cost £200 to replace.. and of course i"ts a common problem on then" ... hey!! look its there favorite number!!....

but apart from thoses aspects you can easily do it yourself

If you do the tranny: I originally wanted to flush fully using the cooler line seems like a much cleaner method and you could run fluid through till is was comming out clean I think this is the best Idea.. the car has a topsider !!!

I suppose letting the car idle for some time after would be advisable so the pump can get fluid everywhere it would need to go.

If you do the tranny: when you drain inspect the TCM/EGS plug and see if its red ended or white ended... if its red ended get the revised one if its white do as I will and clean it up with some contact cleaner let it dry in the sun and as you said you car is a 2000 it will probably be the revised one

but in all honesty i think if you want to do the tranny you have to go deep and get it right and done once.. and going as deep as is necesary is going to be hard.. and require a exacting complement of tools, involve using the cooler line to get it all out and have the large amount of expensive ATF to totally flush every last dribble of goobldy gook out.
also this would then be the time to take out the Selector Module and clean it up from drink spillage abuse.. inspect for oil penetration etc, and see that the bush's are healthy.. this is not that straight forward.. but if the car was to be truely serviced in my eyes this is what you need to be paying attention to.

ohlord and others are probably slaping there heads wondering why Mr power steering pump didnt get some of the action as ATF was on hand.. that is again something a dealer/garage wouldnt dream of doing

* I dont have spark plugs and glow plugs are expensive so I skiped that part* savage glow plugs.. sounds like they bite people
how ever I have done it before with my kompressor its again a minor just get a 17mm sparkplug socket..

you can also easily do the cabin filters on our cars just time involved

M112

and M113's despise multi tip plugs, and your old 300E should never have even been on a diet of single side electrode platinums. It ran best on copper oem plugs.
Multi tip plats on v6 and v8 varients lead to misfire issues.
Keep them on single side electrode plats.NGK 7090 for 3 bucks work just fine for 100,000 miles

i also need a service b and i called all around town yesterday getting quotes from 300 - 700 dollars for a glorified oil change. finally i found a place that actually was honest and admitted that most places charge out the nose for the oil change and then just skim through the rest of the checklist. they are willing do to the oil and filter change for 95 and do the inspection for free and let me know if i actually need anything. we will see if they are actually honest but i told them i need new brakes soon and if they treated me well they would earn my repeat business. their better business bureau checked out and i asked a few people and they had good things to say, i have my fingers crossed.

i couldn't believe the guy that said 700, what an idiot. its like he didnt want my business.

ps - the stealership quoted at 400

Good luck with the plug replacement. Those things are buried pretty good on the driver's side. Make sure you have a magnet to retrieve all of the stuff you'll probably drop.

?

the plugs when properly removed of their boots with the 17mm boot removal to(me) are easy diy and the drivers side are far easier than the passenger side. Takes you like 30 minutes to do the drivers side. You just need the boot tool and follow the diy on my site or pm me if not getting the whole page.

I had my B service done this AM (140K). Went to dealership, $348 including tax. I have no problem with that price. Does anyone sell Mobil1 0w40? I have had a heck of a time finding it any of the chain stores?

But you need vacuum suction to get the old oil out of the engine.

I wouldn't save on this part.

I think one of the chains ohreilys

or autozone has a m1 sale on 6qts for 35 bucks
and I have a 50dollar electric pump that requires no manual pumping just set it and forget it.Oil suction takes about 5 minutes with warm oil.
