Why windows lost sync....?
Over the past 10 days, it has been happening more progressive that my driver's side window would lose the "one touch go" or move only an inch down once I press the button, every time I start car and prepare to pull away. Once getting on the main road, I find the "move by inch" agony is gone but the "one touch go" has still not returned.
I would normally do the re-sync once I get home and back normal the window does. But then the next day I drive it is the same litany.
Any idea what is ghosting around?

Check
battery charge.
And battery connection. You are dropping power someplace in the system or at the pse module.

Changed brand new battery but this sync loss keeps doing.
Normal for 2-4 days, then the next day window goes only 1 inch then need to re-press then another inch. Need to resync then another 3 days trouble free. Anybody can help?
Read some threads that correct sync needs to press to detene 2 when window hits bottom; did this but didn't help. Only thing I didn't do is to sync all 4 windows but only driver's wide - I never touched the other 3 windows at all.

Hey Benz lovers .... any more response....?
Window keeps needing sync every 3-4 days, otherwise the "express up/down" is dead or the window moves only 1 inch each time the button is pressed.

Same thing started to happen since I dis-connected my battery to DIY my engine mounts. I thought the switch has gone bad, but obviously not.
I am eagerly waiting for input from the gurus on this subject.

CAN (controller area network) which communicates with DCM (door control modules) appears faulty and both need to be replaced; estimated costs USD7000. That's the latest diagnosis I have been able to obtain. This is electronics - and is not what most Indy's are good at. This needs going back to the dealer. Same as my PC - replaced the motherboard and the Intel Chip and never any issue again with the Vista 64bit machine.

<table id="post3595162" class="tborder" align="center" border="0" cellpadding="6" cellspacing="0" width="100%"><tbody><tr valign="top"><td class="alt1" id="td_post_3595162" style="border-right: 1px solid rgb(204, 204, 204);">So this driver side window keeps ghosting - it moves inch by inch on pressing the button but express up/down is dead; it also act ups intermittent as today it is bad but tomorrow it may be good again, though the express is mostly dead. All other windows, sunroof and side mirrors are working perfect.
Dealer diagnosis: Possible that the CAN (controller area network) and the DCM (door control module) needs replacement, with estimates at USD7000.
1st Indy: the switch beneath the transmission lever is faulty. Needs changed. Question: is this switch 1 for 1 or 1 for 4 windows?
2nd Indy: the window track needs adjusted; if not then the motor needs replacement.
What do you think the most likely culprit?

E320 1999 Station Wagon
module
Hi,
I have had (to some extent) similar problem with my windows on the front. After battery re-connect, they would work fine, but after couple days the windows and everything electrical would stop working on the front sides (never back sides).
I brought it to the dealer and their diagnosis is DCM needs to be replaced. I went today to the recycle place to make sure that before I dish out 250 for each DCM I make sure that it is the problem. Well, we found out it is not. The guy ate recycle place told me that the central console controler for windows (or however the part is called) is more likely to be the problem as he sees them selling in ration 10:1 versus DCMs.
I took my apart and it seems that they are often covered by spilled drinks since it sits right underneath the drink holder (especially the mirror portion of the board).
I was hoping to completely take it apart, but got stuck on the mirror stick, which seems to be holding the board attached to the plastic casing. I did not want to brake the stick, so rather just cleaned what I was able to see with mineral spirit.
I will try to put it back later and see whether it would make difference. I was hoping to get the used board, but I have wagon and the boards are different from more common sedan versions which has trunk opener (which wagon does not have).
Anyway, I will report later and if anyone has an idea how to take apart completely the board, I would appreciate as I thought it may have some loose contacts or just needs cleaning.
Let me know how yours went.

We put a different DCM and it would still not work, which would mean that the DCM is not a problem. Besides the fact that after battery restart, the windows would work for a while.

The dealers use SDS (Star Diagnostic System). Most Independent use Snap-On and other third party scanners. Then there are these Chinese Carsoft 7.4. The key is that the scanner needs to be able to communicate with the Mercedes 38-pin socket and also pull codes from the modules (not just engine codes).

Yeah, I did not pull the codes. Actually dealer told me that they did pull the codes, but according to them it was DCM. I did not want to spend a lot of money just on diagnostics and I am always rather "hands on" guy.

How much did they charge for parts/labor? BTW, do you use any scanner yourself? I am stratign to think about one if the electrical problems would persist.

I paid colossal but shouldn't mean anything to you as Hong Kong / Calif are entirely different pricing regimes. The price of a brand new E300 here is 3 times that you would have to pay in the USA. I don't use scanner, but I paid an indy to do that for me, and I do get a 2nd opinion before giving the go ahead to the dealer. What problems do you think would persist? You need to pull codes rather than wild goose chase.

Well, my goose chase is paying off. The switch is working fine now (knock on the wood). I would let you know if it would stop working in future.

1997 E320 Sedan
Can anyone give me instructions to remove the driver's window switch in the console of my 1997 E320 sedan (W210)? I hear a click in my door panel when pressing switch for "down" operation but hear nothing for "up" operation. My window is stuck in "down" position. Also, if I need to to remove driver's door panel, I need these instructions, as well, especially since there is a crash bag in the door.
