Wagon Suspension

I am really considering picking up a 00+ E320 wagon but I am concerned that I wouldn’t be able to drop the car as low as I would want it. I’ve read its possible to swap out the rear self leveling shocks for standard ones along with the standard power steering pump, but does anyone actually have experience with this? Seems like most of you prefer to tamper with the rear self leveling sensors/adjustment to get it to sit a little lower. My goal for the car would be for 19” rims to be tucked and I’m afraid the factory system wouldn’t be able to be adjusted that much or would be too bouncy of a ride. Is it possible to just disable and plug up the power steering/self leveling pump that’s already in there if swapping to aftermarket shocks? Does doing the conversion throw off any warning lights?

You adjust the rear or

replace the pump and shocks with standaard or cut the springs

you can bring the rear down on the SLS system by as much as 1.75 inches. That is just about to the top of the tire and still retain the system's functionality. Why dismantle a very pricey and worth while system to slam a wagon when your kidneys won't take the abuse on a good day??? H&R or Brabus sport springs will bring you down about 1.4 inches, Eibach will take it lower to 2" and the change in coil spring upper rubber seat cushions can pick up as much as 16mm more. Lower than 2 inches and you may damage the rear dampners not shocks. Cup kits are more money. Take it lower than 2" a change out must be done to the SLS for standard shocks and pwr strg pump. That is pricey and much more involved. What are you trying to achieve with the car and what is the intended purpose?

I’m pretty set on 19-20” wheels on a 210 and I’m almost positive a 2” drop wouldn’t even be enough of a drop for me. I’d probably cut the lowering springs right off the bat. I guess I‘d have to go with swapping out the power steering pump and shocks. Has anyone on here actually done this? Ultimately, I will probably swap out the whole suspension for air ride later down the line. The car would be my daily just like the other cars I’ve owned. As for what I would be trying to accomplish, this is where I’m coming from:

I haven't heard anyone with a W210 wagon do it, but I think I read someone in the W124 forums has done it already. Do a search in that forum.

You don't need to drop a wagon more than 2 inches to fill the wheel wells and still be drivable.
This is what I am heading towards.
You might want to stay away from chrome.
Mercedes suspensions hate them.

I'm not sure I fully understand your last post. Do you mean several members have ditched the self leveling system? Also what do you mean Mercedes suspensions hate chrome?

Yeah Oh Lord what do you mean by that chrome comment? Chrome or paint is all in how you take care of them. Chrome and salt environments don't mix. Here in Western PA and up in the Toronto Area there is a lot of that and for that matter cleared wheels do not fare much better just less pricey to repair. My chromed wheels are now 6 years old and holding up well but they also see no winter use and I do not live near a salt water coast. there was another newer member on here from SC a while back I sold some OEM painted MB wheels too that he was replacing his chrome ones with because chrome did not hold up in his environment on the south eastern coast. Maybe that is what you are referring to. Just curious...
