Gear indicator on the cluster
It is a 2001 E320 4matic with 107k miles. The gear indicator on the cluster does not show the gear number or location. The LCD on the just keep flashing. Does anyone know how to fix this and how much does it cost to fix this item. Without the gear indicator, the car will not pass the safety inspection in Maryland.
The cluster also indicates a 1 malfunction. Does anyone know what does this mean?

Give it a try and if it does not work check if the bulb is bad and replace it.
If the pixels are flashing try the fix.
You can send it out to be repaired $250 about.
Why won't they pass it?It is not obd2 smog related issue.
Do they fail you if any other lights are out?
After all all you need to do is look down at the shifter to determine what gear you are in.
