I need a reality check on the pricing to remove and replace the transfer case and front differential on a 2001 E320 4matic wagon. My shop quoted me $5700 before tax.

I am at a loss the car is in amazing condition and only has 110,000 miles

 

it is a time intensive job you can get warrantied units used and save a bunch.
You are quickly coming up on 2/3 the value of the car.
check several mb indie shops,labor rates vary widely.

 

Second shop said just the parts are $6200. I guess there will be a pile of 4matics hitting the junk yards in the next few years at these prices.
