1999 E430 suffering from faulty CPS?

My parents' 99 E430 recently started to sometimes not start (turn key, tries to start but doesn't, then pretty much every light on the dash comes on), and if we do manage to start the car after 15-30 minutes, we can drive for 10-15 minutes before the engine goes dead again (with all the lights coming on such as SRS, BAS, Check Engine, Warning, etc.), and then another 15-30 minutes for the car to be able to start again, rinse, repeat.

Is it most likely the legendary CPS problem rearing its ugly head, and could there be some other problem that causes the above symptoms as well?

I would say yes.Always start with the most simple cost effective maintenance pieces before throwing huge sums of money at something.
