more than likely the stop lamp switch has failed.. I'd find somewhere to pull the fault code and make sure though..

It can also be one of the early signs that the battery is failing. Especially if it comes on and then goes out after one or two drive cycles. If it's the battery, you may also experience loss of sync on things like express windows and sun roof.

I believe he is referring to the brake switch located under/behind the brake pedal. It is common for the BAS light to come on when the switch becomes defective.

FYI, the best way to test the battery is to remove from the car and do a load test with the battery on the bench.

Could be the Brake light switch

My aunt had the same exact problem with her 2000 E320 last month. The BAS and ESP would come on periodically. When she took it to the service department they told her the brake light switch needed replacing. Since the switch was replaced she hasn't had the problem.

I've been having the BAS and ESP errors (but not the ABS) come on occasionally after my car sat over a long, cold weekend. I know its not the brake light switch because I just replaced that a few months ago. It always seems to go away if I restart the car.

Most likely my battery getting weak? Haven't noticed any sync problems yet.
