SHOULD I?? 98E320 169K MILES
hEY ALL..!!! New to the site so Be Nice
if i ask stupid questions ..
..
I'm lookin into all kinds of benz at the moment .. But i just came across this E class and looks pretty clean . Havnt seen it but going in the Morning so hopefully i can get a little bit of insite throught the night if anyones out there ..
Its a 98' , has 169 on the clock .. From talkin to the owner said he had light front end fender bender didnt damage anything except the headlight which has been replaced .. and the airbag expolded so he said he cut it out which ehh i've heard they can be expensive to re install and buy <retail> which if i buy this car i'll source what i need .
$2,500 takes it ... he had it listed for 4 grand then 3,500 he must need the money or
It's ready to DIE ..
What are the main things i should check for .. any specific areas that might leak? and certain noises or knocks i should looks for?
I have many more questions but thanks in advance for any help and advice !!!!!!!
Well see tomorrow how the Ride checks out and if the motor and tranny are cool for starters but at $2,500 for a 98 wit under 200k miles seems like a deal that even if it needs to TLC if still very cheap .. as long as it dont need no major overhauls .. heres a couple pics of the car from the seller ..

I'll tell you right now from the pictures and your description that this car is a hackjob. It seems that at least the headlight, fender, and panel under the headlight was damaged in the accident and not repaired correctly. I don't believe a simple accident, as the seller claimed, could cause an airbag to explode. Also, the lower skirts have been painted to match the body with what seems like rattle can. Not replacing an airbag after an accident is also a big no-no. I would not waste my time on this car.

Do yourself a *big favor* and stay away from this car. If you want a $3000 Mercedes, you can find an older one, a 190E, or something like that.
Keep looking; don't be pulled forward into a bad decision by the "gotta have one" feeling.

Good luck finding the right car! Fill out your User CP, so we know where you're located. Who knows... one of us might know of something that'd work for you.

Do your homework!
These cars are a joy to own and can be expensive to fix. IMO find one that has records and history that can be verified. There are plenty of good used Benz's to be had.

2002 E430 4MATIC
I sold our '97 E420 with just over 100,000 miles for $3,000. Mechanically the car was very tight and was dealer serviced per schedule from day 0. But it had the cancer big time. That was 18 months ago.
I wouldn't touch that car. A $2,500 W210 will have some serious issues somewhere.....or it wouldn't be so cheap.
