central locking & key fob remote issues

A couple of things with the locking system in my wagon...

The IR doesn't seem to work. At all. Windows won't go up nor down when I press and hold either button on the key fob while pointing the IR trasmitter at the front door handle. Interestingly, the little square on the door handle where I think the IR receiver is supposed to be is opaque. Is this IR functionality an option? The manual states plainly that the car comes with this functionality....

Second thing... when I lock the car, it does nothing to indicate it's locking. The doors lock, but the lights don't flash, nor is there any sound. When I unlock the car, the turn signals all flash once. Owner's manual says the turning signlas should flash three times when locking... I get nothing. Is this a setting, or a malfunction?

Thanks...

A day and a half and 40 views and no replies?

I'm surprised no one in this group has any info on these issues...

Anyone? Bueller? Please?

The 3 flash lock confirmation only works when all doors & tailgate are closed. I would check to make sure that one of the door sensors isn't malfunctioning.

Thanks very much! I'll see if I can troubleshoot this. The rear driver's side door does have an issue - it won't lock at all with central locking. I have to lock it manually. Maybe this is a related issue. Would be nice if the IR malfunction was related to this too...

Key fob battery could also be getting weak. Its only purpose is to power the IR signal.

I'll try that, but the key fob is pretty new looking. Definitely newer than the car.

So, MBZ created a perpetual energy source for the RF signal huh? Wow. If only they could scale it up to power their cars...

I have exactly the same problems with my e320 sedan

The window and locking all worked accordingly initially.. but now the windows do not respond to the key wind options and locking the car takes multiple tries before it locks.. sometimes i just give up and use the utility key to lock the car....

You may want to look into the condition of your battery (car's not key). These cars are sensitive to low voltage. First sign is intermittent gremlins like failure to lock doors, loss of sync on windows or sunroof, BAS errors, etc. Second sign is it won't start even though there's enough voltage to power headlights, etc.

Proper way to test battery is to remove from car and use load tester at bench. Checking voltage of installed battery doesn't tell much.

Good luck.

Virtually all of my problems resolved when I adjusted the plate that hits the door-open sensor on the driver's side door. I backed the screw out a couple turns, and this brought the plate out just enough such that the door-open sensor plunger now gets fully depressed when the driver's door is closed.

Summary: all the problems were related to the driver's side door sensor thinking that the driver's door was not fully closed.

(The rear driver's side door still doesn't lock with the central locking, but that's because the solenoid/actuator is dead I think.... unrelated.)

Other than the one door, are all other issues resolved?

Do you have a picture to show where the door sensor is located?

Thanks!
