Exclamation Broken mirror mount - need fix !

Trying to get a new mounting bracket for passenger's side mirror. Mirror, housing, gasket and motor all intact & work OK, but mount bracket is broken. Suggest how to order a new one or better yet, reliable adhesive/method to repair it? 1998 E320 wagon. W210 body. Suggestions please!

I was told there is no replacement part other than a total replacement to fix this. I bet its the metal piece where that springs attaches? What a lousy design. I used a real good epoxy, and just glued the mirror housing in place, its fine. Every once ina while, it comes loose, just hit it again with the epoxy. A new mirror cost big bucks.

broken mirror mount

Thanks for the reply. Epoxy fix... that's what I was thinking. What kind did you use? I would like to do this only once if possible. Please let me know. Thanks!

You don't mention what part of the mirror mount is broken, but if your problem is that the attachment point for the spring that holds the mirror tight to the door is broken, there is an easy DIY fix. The symptom for the broken spring attachment is that the mirror sort of flops around and sags a bit. If this is your problem let us know.

Sounds like a cause for JB Weld. It will hold nearly anything.

epoxy from a syringe

Mine was loose but not completely broken off.
I used epoxy (the kind that mixes out of the syringe) and put a bead around the entire edge where it mounts to the car. True I can no longer move it (the assembly, not the glass inside), and no longer access inside that assembly, but it was either that or a $500 new mirror.

petkennel -- go back to main page for this forum and look at the top "stickies" area. Also check the more extensive set of diy threads in the W210 forum on www.benzworld.org, a sister site to this one.

dstorfer -- glad you managed a fix; you can also call some of the national mercedes dismantlers and put in a back order for a good mirror in your color and install that later...

petkennel, I have posted my DIY for the broken mirror spring attachment, as a new thread in this section (w210). It should fix your problem. I still don't understand mike's problem well enough to know if this will fix his problem. Hope so. Look for "floppy side mirror (w210) fix". And please stop smearing epoxy on the outside of Mercedes'. There ought to be a law!

Somebody pushed my drivers side mirror the wrong way on my E320-- it is attached but floppy perhaps the spring came out or is not attached? any suggestions to tighten this up so it does not flap with the wind on the highway

If is a '96 thru '99 model the following DIY should be helpful.
http://tinyurl.com/37p25qf
The mirror is supposed to be able to be pushed either forward or backward. The problem is due to a poor design in the spring attachment point. I think you will find that the fix is easy.

side mirror mounting assembly broken off

I have a E320 1999 Wagon where the driver side mirror vibrates at speed. There is an apparent broken bracket or something that seems circular/tubular in shape attached to mounting on the door. The mirror adjusts fine and kinda works but you can tell it does not snug to mounting bracket as it should. I can see the broken part when I bend the mirror assembly forward. The spring is not detached inside mirror assembly. Where and how it clips to mounting bracket is what is broken. Nothing is left from the mounting assembly but a sheared off tubular area. How is epoxy to fix that???

I believe that if you take off the cover you will be able to see what has broken and decide on a fix. If you go to the stickies at the top of this section, in the second one, you will find a link for loose wing mirrors, which tells how to remove your cover and how to fix a broken spring attachment.
