wheel speed sensor location / replace?
Have several warning messages on my 1998 E320 4 matic. "BAS", "ETS", messages on multi function indicator, and amber light ETS/BAS in lower left dash display. Cruise control stopped working at the same these came on. Read some threads about brake pedal switch and also wheel speed sensors causing these warnings. Anybody know where to look for these and how to replace? Could this be as simple as a blown fuse? I hope it's as easy fix, hoping to cut down the learning curve. Input anyone??

Replace the
brake switch.
Most likely it is the culprit and not a speed sensor.
You are running the correct size tires are you not?

brake switch / clear fault codes
Had the computer codes read today and that's the problem alright! Error code P1584 - Stop Lamp Switch. MB Replace part #001-545-01-09. The dealer won't get one for a week, so I'm going Napa aftermarket. Opinions on that? I'm not a MB purist this time, just need my traction back!
Also replacing the oil level sensor. That cures all the code woes. Not keen on spending another $100 just to clear the computer. What about disconnecting the battery to accomplish this? I have my radio code to reset that. Anything else I should be aware of?

Get the
switch from www.autohausaz.com
You won't need to clear anything it will clear itself.
Disconnecting the battery only turns off the light. Not the problem.
When you replace the switch all will be well.

brake light switch
Well, I got the switch.... Was unsuccessful changing it out. It's in a REALLY tight place up under the dash and couldn't get a wrench on the nut that holds the switch in place. I just barely found a way to touch the nut with my fingers, didn't look possible to get a wrench up in there. Maybe going about it the wrong way? I read somewhere that a quarter turn on the switch removes it. Trying to be wary of all the small fragile wires that could break and make a much bigger mess. Anyone have input on changing the switch?
